The Daily Scroll

Experimental Film, Speculative Research, Projection Mapping, Sound Design

As our daily lives become increasingly saturated with short-form content, this project interrogates the psychological and emotional toll of constant digital engagement, fragmented attention, detachment from reality, and an underlying sense of isolation.

Using practical set design, physical props, and minimal digital manipulation, the film recreates the disorientation that arises when navigating between digital and physical worlds. At its core, the work explores how modern existence is split between these two realms, and how that split impacts our cognition and presence.

Prototype Films

The project began as an exploration of multiplicity, prompting us to experiment with a variety of set design and filming techniques. We were particularly drawn to the use of one-way mirrors to evoke a surreal, sci-fi aesthetic—both visually striking and conceptually layered. To test these ideas, we created a short prototype film that allowed us to explore the mood, materials, and visual language in practice.

Experimentation

We cut acrylic sheets into various sizes to create a range of compositions and visual layers. To streamline our setup process, we designed custom stands to support the structures during filming. We also experimented with bending the acrylic to further distort light and reflections.
